A Bengalee's review of Hindi movie Toilet Ek Prem katha

The film is a realistic view of 2 India's that exist inside India. One, "Bharat" and the other one is "India". We see  a very realistic description of "Bharat" which is still rooted in backwardness, misinterpretation of religious tenets by senior members of the society and  even by senior family members (like parents).

It also shows what difficulty Indian women has to face and the physical abuse risks they are exposed by the mere fact of going out for relieving themselves in the open. The most important fact is the film is based on true life event of real people, whose original pictures were shared at the end of the film.

I hope people who has seen the film has not turned off their TV the moment the film ended. It still shocks me how can people think that a lady (Anushka Sharma), who is also  client, of Shakrukh Khan ( tour guide) in "Jab Harry Met Sejal" behave in the way she has been shown to behave in the film.

The shocking thing is that there were so called dumb ass fans who went to see this nonsensical film ("Jab Harry Met Sejal"). This film is shot in the cheapest Europen City (Budapest, Hungary). Toilet Ek Prem Katha is shot in a village and more realistic backdrop.

The films shows several facts that we need to review and build on, if we one to progress as a nation:-

1) Everything told by our Shashtras or any ancient scriptures may have been correct but it was written in a time and by people who were learned but cant appreciate the huge changes society has undergone and will undergo due to changes in economy, science and technology - so, it is necessary to realistically evaluate based on logic

2) Logic comes through exposure to new information and information comes through knowledge - bottom line is education is important

3) If we dont respect ourselves or stay contended with the present situation no one (government, family members, society) will do anything for you.  The "Lota gang" ( the gang of ladies who used to go for shitting together) were content to whatever has been provided to them. They were following herd mentality.

4)Government cant solve all our problems and stop blaming government. It was very realistically shown how free toilet building scheme is misused by citizens for using for some other purpose than intended. This also creates scope for corruption among government officials.

5) You dont need to change the world. Change yourselves and the world around you will change. Initially, the character played by Akshay Kumar refused to reason with his wife who left her in-laws home demanding a in-house toilet.

6) Our village education system is not taking us anywhere. Infact, our whole education system is not going anywhere.
