It is said that in the future world whoever has the control of the largest reserve of fresh water will rule this Earth. Oil will no longer remain an important factor for World politics. Even a layman can see the signal. There are so many water purifier manufacturers -Kent, Aqua guard, Tata, Hindustan Unilever, etc.

The companies comes up with new brand ambassadors and new advertisements. With so many companies on offer, customers are perplexed as to what to buy and from whom to buy. In most cases, I have seen that people fall for the brand whose sales representative has approached you first or has been able to make his first impression well enough. The very first advice is not to base your decision merely on the lip service of the marketing executive. It is an essential and important device and you are your best judge in this regard.

what are the determining factors that one should be looking for while determining a water purifier model?

3. Annual Maintenance Contract charge and nearness of a service center / Business Partner / Franchisee near your locality

1.Geography of the Land and the settlement:-

By this, I mean what is the source of your water. Is it supplied by the municipality through a pipeline at fixed times every day? or, is it drawn from the ground water table using, say for instance a submersible pump? Now! The question is what difference does it make?

The river water purified by a processing unit of municipality and then supplied will have a level of purity in the sense that it won't be high in arsenic, iron,etc. However, it may be rich in mercury,lead,pesticides as many factories dump their waste in rivers and their adjoining tributaries. It may also happen that old water pipelines may be leaking and taking in gutter water.

In case of drawing water from the ground water table you dont have problem with mixing of gutter water. But as population pressure is increasing, water bodies are decreasing as well as open land from where rain water seeps into the underlying aquifer recharging the ground water table. In summer, the ground water table may go down. In rural bengal, idols are often thrown in or beside big and small ponds. The colours used on these idols are bio-hazardous and contains lead,etc. As ground water gets recharged some part of this toxic substances seeps in too, increasing their concentration. Moreover, you will accept that the amount of water getting recharged is less compared to what is being drawn out, as population continues to grow. The concentration of arscenic increases and becomes hazardous.

So, when buying , you are your best judge. It is evident that people using groundwater needs attachments along with purifiers that are capable of removing heavy metals and not just iron.

2.Purification technology available in that model:-

Just concentrate on 2 technologies - RO and UV(NB-just check the hyperlinks for RO and UV). You will often find with other tall claims like - water taste enhancer, eBoiling, and so on. But if you search then on the NET you won't find a single scientific document, definition on the internet.

The only 2 stuffs you need is RO+UV combination in your goddamn purifier, if you don't have one then buy one when you have the money. RO takes care for all non-living impurities in your water. UV takes care of all living microscopic, in most cases, impurities in water. Don't think that by this I mean, if you live in an area where you get baby snakes coming out of your tap will also get killed with UV.

3. Nearness to Local dealer, franchisee,service center:-

I would put it this way. When you buy a proper water purifier, you actually get married to that device because servicing people will come to service your attachments, change cartridges inside the water purifier and for fixing any error.

You are not the only guy out there there may be hundreds of thousands. If you are close you will get prompt response. No water purifier is free from this. Just know the complaint matrix by logging into the official website of the company. If you are in good terms with the technician, you will get his phone number. But even after making a call and asking him to come, make the complaint official which will ensure and register the number of times you are facing the problem. This will help your case in case of replacement, warranty related servicing,etc.

4. Online Reviews of the Model:-

 This will put you into a ground reality when you know about the different types of errors people have lodged complaint about on the internet. judge every model realistically and see which model is having nominal and minor problems.

5. Expensive is not the best:-

 Expensive devices with lots of mumbo jumbo features mentioned in the brochure, with technologies like water taste or purification customization will only land you in a high AMC(annual maintenance contract). This is no goddamn mobile phone that you are going to take pics and change wallpapers every fortnight.So, stay clear out of devices promising manual settings to change/enhance your drinking water experience,as per users manual input. Moreover, more expensive means more commission for the saleman. Just see if the purifier has UV+RO combination. Many companies claim UV feature availability in its model but in their user manual you wont find details like - life time of the UV lamp they have provided, stay clear out of these models. just read the technical specifications more carefully than other unimportant sections of the brochure,manual which are more highlighted.

Before getting the device installed make the technician check the water pressure. It may so be needed that you are residing in the top floors in an apartment or may be even a 2 storied house, you might need a small pump designated to boost the pressure. This will make the machine run smoothly.Believe me you will need it.
